Transphobia & Ballet - Queer Dance Project

Transphobia & Ballet

|

Some of the oldest forms of discrimination are in the Arts. Personally the most obvious is in classical ballet.  This “classical” movement is classically full of hostility.  Opening discriminating on age, weight, height, race, gender.

This industrial machine is a well oiled discrimination machine.

Despite the grande jete’s forward with ballet companies of color. Their progress is slow and mirrors American culture of underlying racial discrimination.  Thanks to organizations like Alvin Alley,  Dance Theatre of Harlem, Ballet Hispanico and a number of others.  Which jete’d their way into the classical dance stage & training.  Race discrimination has become mildly less in classical ballet.

It is the long standing, centuries old hostility toward gender that shows their true loathing.  Transphobia in classical ballet is epic.

Fascinatingly the other part of the alphabet is invited to the table.  Bi, gay or lesbian are all openly welcome.

The seed of hate is deep

Plan and simple classical ballet is the embodiment of gender hostility!  The tributary flows straight from century old classical ballet directly into the classical ballet school.  This is not to say as gender non conforming individuals are not welcome.

The continuous bullying due to lack of our gender conformity is colossal.

I am delighted to see this classical arts industry stubble and fail due to COVID-19.  Let these ballet companies & ballet schools fail!  They are part of the systemic culture of intolerance & transphobia.

Open transphobia by studio owners, students, up to ballet companies is proof this Art is hostile & hateful to the transgender community.
